Hi-Steppers Take State by Storm!
January 26, 2022
Archbishop Chapelle’s dance team, the Hi-Steppers, did an outstanding job at the American
All-Star Dance Team competition. When they stepped onto the gym floor, their personality was
electric. You couldn’t help but smile as the dancers poured their hearts into the routines. The
Hi-Steppers performed 4 group dances, one officer dance, and multiple solos.
Choreographer and Hi-Stepper alumnae, Savannah Swain ’14, had much to say about the team’s success, “Choreographing for this team is nothing short of amazing. When there is a vision in mind, the girls are on board and are able to deliver the performance aspect behind the choreography. It is truly inspiring to work with Hi-Steppers and see their talent and hard work come to light.”
Once all the performances were over, it was time for awards. It started off with the Hi-Stepper’s coach of 20 years, Stacy Woodward ’96, getting the director of the year award! “Woody is the backbone to the Hi-Stepper team. She is incredibly talented and wears so many hats across the board. She spends many countless hours ensuring the team’s success. Within the past 20 years, Woody has transformed the Hi-Steppers into state champions. This team would be nothing without her.” (Swain ’14)
Then the ceremony continued as they earned many first and second place awards. Finally, it was time to announce the division three champion. The team held their breath waiting to hear their name. Then they heard it: Archbishop Chapelle Hi-Steppers are the division three state champions! The girls jumped
for joy. They did it! First-year member, Karissa Dennis states, “We definitely had those stressful practices, but that hard work paid off. We grew so much as a team this year!”
The dancers are excited and proud of their accomplishments. They could not have won without their incredible team, officers, captain, and coaches. Congratulations Hi-Steppers!
